4 Crore Rupees Allocation Criticized as Insufficient by Chitral Action Committee

Chitral: The recent heavy rains and subsequent floods in Chitral have caused significant damage and losses in various areas, resulting in a dire situation for the affected residents. In response to the calamity, the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nadim Islam Chaudhry, announced an allocation of 2.2 crore rupees for flood-affected people. However, this decision has been met with strong criticism from the Chitral Action Committee, who denounce it as inadequate and mockingly insufficient.

During a protest press conference held at the Chitral Press Club, members of the Chitral Action Committee, including Raziullah, Shabeer Ahmed, Bashir Ahmed, Nabeeg Advocate, Altaf Gohar Advocate, Sharif Hussain, and others, expressed their dismay at the Chief Secretary’s announcement. They contended that more than half of Chitral is now inundated due to merciless waves of the Chitral River and floodwaters, rendering the 2.2 crore rupees allocation a mockery for the people of Chitral.

The committee further demanded that the provincial government immediately announce a substantial relief package and take urgent measures to assist the flood-affected communities. They stressed the need to declare the entire region a disaster zone and promptly implement emergency measures to restore the infrastructure and provide immediate aid to those affected by the floods.

The situation in Chitral is highly critical, and the government must act swiftly and decisively to address the plight of the flood victims. The Chitral Action Committee insists that mere declarations and insufficient funds will not suffice in the face of such a disaster. It calls on the government to prioritize rehabilitation efforts, provide essential relief, and ensure a transparent and speedy assessment process to accurately determine the extent of the damages.
