Chilghoza harvesting toolkits distributed among local collectors in Chitral to ensure sustainable harvesting of chilghoza pine nuts

FAO under Chilghoza Project with the support of KP Forest Department Chitral distributed toolkits for sustainable chilghoza harvesting in Chitral

 

CHITRAL: Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) Under the Project Reversing Deforestation and Degradation in High Conservation Value Chilgoza Pine Forests in Pakistan with Collaboration of KP Forest Department Chitral has distributed Chilghoza harvesting toolkits among local collectors in the chitral in order to improve sustainable cones harvesting.

 

Mr. Ajaz Ahmad the Provincial Coordinator Chilghoza Forest said that the objectives of the introduction and distribution of these toolkits is to improve sustainable cones harvesting and to minimize the damages to the chilghoza forest due to traditional cones harvesting by the collectors.

An event was held in Kalash Valley Bumburate and Birir where the local communities, Members from Chilghoza Forest Protection & Conservation Committees and other stakeholders participated.

 

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the collaboration of Ministry of Climate Change, Provincial forest departments and other stakeholders will contribute to improving environment, enhancing resilience and improving livelihoods in Pakistan over the next 4 years through its project “Reversing deforestation and forest degradation in high conservation value Chilghoza Pine in Pakistan.
